Poliana Alves

Poliana Alves, mezzo-soprano, holds a PhD in Music – Interpretive Practices – Voice, from the State University of Campinas/SP (UNICAMP).

Her studies in Lyric Singing were guided by Professors Dr. Edmar Ferretti and Dr. Adriana Giarola Kayama.

As a lyric singer, she has performed numerous chamber recitals in various parts of Brazil, also singing in Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United States, bringing Brazilian chamber music and song to audiences abroad with great success and appreciation for its diverse genres.

Some of her performances include the Requiem (Mozart) with the Goiânia Symphony Orchestra and Choir under the direction of conductor Ângelo Dias; soloist with the Unicamp Symphony Orchestra in the works El amor brujo (M. Falla) conducted by Simone Menezes; La mort de Cleopatre (Berlioz) and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, conducted by Carlos Fiorini, and Sun Sun (song by Dinorá de Carvalho), conducted by Cinthia Alireti.

In 2018 and 2021, in Barcelona, Spain, she participated in the BFoS (Barcelona Festival of Song), where she performed concerts with Brazilian works.

In 2019, she participated in the Cerrado Ensemble Project (a project by Prof. Dr. Gabriel Rimoldi), performing the works: Chansons Madécasses (M. Ravel) and Cycle of Love (A. Boyd), performing in Uberlândia and neighboring cities.

Also in 2019, she was invited to sing the role of Santuzza in the opera Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) in Goiânia, at the opening of the Goiânia Opera Festival (FOGO) with the Goiás Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Eliel Ferreira.

In 2023, she joined the Faculty at FIO Italia (Italian International Opera Festival), where she performed the role of Nina in Lo Frate 'Nnamorato by G. B. Pergolesi, performing in Urbania and Jesi/Italy, and also offered masterclasses at the festival. In December 2023, she performed in the Cantatas em Cena 2 project, singing Cantata Campesina BWV 212 (J. S. Bach).

In April 2024, she toured the United States as a guest artist in three Brazilian music concerts presented at the University of Florida in Gainesville, the Ovation Concert series in Decatur, through Georgia State University, in Atlanta, and at the Tulane Vocal Arts Festival & Symposium at Tulane University in New Orleans. She also gave masterclasses at all three universities.

In June and July of 2024, Ms. Alves joined the FIO Italia faculty at FIO Italy, based in Urbania, Italy.

In March 2025, she was again invited by the Goiás Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Goiás Youth Symphony Choir to perform in the opera Cavalleria Rusticana (P. Mascagni) as the protagonist Santuzza, conducted by Maestro Eliel Ferreira.

As a promoter of Brazilian chamber music, Poliana Alves frequently performs at various seminars, festivals, and music congresses at several universities in Brazil with her studies and research connected to this field.

She is also a researcher, whose work focuses on interpretative issues related to Brazilian vocal music, with emphasis on singing in Portuguese from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

She is currently a professor of Voice in the Music Course of the Arts Institute at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), Minas Gerais, Brazil.
