For our 2027 season, FIO has internships available for the following positions:

Internships at
FIO MONDO

Our Costumer Interns will:

  • Workshop with the costume designer on costume concept and process for the festival shows.

  • Work closely with the costume designer and coordinator on alterations, construction, fittings, and execution of the concept of each show for the festival.

  • Act as dresser for the shows.

  • Clean and strike costumes and costumes shop at the end of the season and learn the process for a company that produces shows outside of the United States.

Stage Technicians

Stage Technicians at FIO will act as Festival Productions Managers:

  • Meet with the lighting intern(s) and stage management intern(s) to discuss needs for each show.

  • Be the point person for each show’s tech week. Make sure everyone is accomplishing the needs for each show

  • Ask the SM intern(s) to create rehearsal reports for the Festival Directors

Additionally, they will work closely with an assigned stage director. Responsibilities include:

  • Pulling any stage/set pieces needed for each show

  • Organize meetings with the stage director and the Festival Directors to discuss set needs

  • Work closely with the Urbania Commune to enact set requests for the theater

  • Hang any necessary screens or set accoutrement in the theater

  • Be the point person in reorganizing the storage room for the Festival before, during, and after strike.

  • Be responsible for resolving any technical needs that arise

Activity Description:

  • Work with the Festival Directors and the stage directors to design and prepare a lighting plot for each show

  • Submit any requests for additional lighting needs

  • Assist the Festival Directors in decisions related to rental or purchase of additional lighting elements

  • Position any additional lighting elements in the theater with strict permission from the Urbania Commune

  • Work in connection with the director of the performances with the lighting designers in any off-sight performances

  • Run the lighting for the in-house festival performances

  • Assist with any strike needs for the festival

Lighting Designers

Stage Managers will work closely with an assigned stage director. Responsibilities include:

  • Rehearsal reports for the Artistic Director, Director and Conductor

  • Create and pull necessary props for the assigned show. Prepare a list for those props that need to be purchased

  • Development of scheduling for rehearsal and production needs with festival team

  • Prepare the rehearsal space for the upcoming rehearsals

  • Work with the costumer to ensure all singers meet their required costume fittings.

  • Prior to the festival, work with the stage director, conductor, General Director and Artistic Director to disseminate information to singers in the show per the conductor and stage director.

  • During tech week, organize the movement of all necessary equipment, props, etc. to the performance space.

  • Set up the stage for each rehearsal in the space and for the performances

  • Call the show you are assigned.

  • Assist in creating a schedule for strike at the end of the festival

  • Strike the festival

Stage Managers

Administration Internship

Activity Description:

  • Learn about how to budget for a festival that resides outside of the US.

  • Work closely with the administrators on the following:

    • Scheduling for the festival

    • Conflict resolution with schedules, participants and faculty

    • Faculty assignments

    • Singer meetings

    • Faculty meetings

    • Guest artist events (set-up, programming, programs, etc.)

    • Trip lists for outside events

    • Poster creation for events (Italian advertising)

    • Programs for all performances

    • Special Events management

    • Public Relations 

    • Marketing Materials
