Tony Boutté is a versatile artist, performing the roles of singer, director, composer, educator, and scholar with equal passion. Described in Opera News as “possessed of a radiant, communicative tenor," Tony has performed in New York, London, Paris, Leipzig, Hamburg, Berlin, and Los Angeles, and as soloist with top-notch ensembles in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and Walt Disney Hall, among others. Opera News called Tony’s work in a recent production of Douglas Cuomo’s one-man opera Savage Winter at BAM “a heroic performance.” An active recording artist, Tony appears as soloist on 25 discs of music from the Baroque to world premieres. His solo recording of Gabriel Fauré’s Verlaine Settings was described as “…sung with an exhilarating, passionate urgency” by The Guardian (London). Tony’s upcoming recording of works by George Crumb, Zachary Wadsworth, Michael Alec Rose, and Libby Larsen will be released in January 2026.

As a creator, Tony recently completed work on Twenty-Four, or A Cure for Love a new opera/pastiche incorporating all of the 24 Italian Songs & Arias of the 17th & 18th Centuries. Tony’s directing work has been rewarded by the National Opera Association’s Scene Competition, and his recent production of Twenty-Four for the NATS Texoma Regional Conference was vigorously applauded.

Tony holds degrees from Eastman School of Music, University of Maryland, and Louisiana Tech University, with additional studies at Britten-Pears School (UK), with the late tenor, Sir Peter Pears.
